ABOUT
JANINE REWELL is a Helsinki-based illustrator and graphic designer. She has studied graphic design in University of Art and Design Helsinki (UIAH, Finland) and Rhode Island School of Design (RISD, United States). Janine won a bronze Design Lion at the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival 2009 and recently nominated by Print Magazine as one of the twenty hottest new visual artists of 2010. In addition, she just had her first solo exhibition in Barcelona. Inspired by surrealist painters, children's books and toys, bright colors and the geometry of nature, Janine's designs are a distinctive mix of Scandinavian design and Slavic folk art.

Due to Janine's success in CANNES INTERNATIONAL ADVERTISING FESTIVAL last year, she was now asked to judge the Young Lions competition in Finland. The two-person winning teams of each category will be sent to the Cannes Lions Young Creatives competition to represent Finland in June 2010.

For the last 12 years, PRINT has featured an annual issue called the New Visual Artists Review, which introduces and profiles 20 of the MOST PROMISING RISING TALENTS in design - all under the age of 30. This year Janine is nominated as one of the winners! Yey!

Winners' portfolios are published in the April Issue and showcased in an exhibition in New York.

The collection of posters on show at BEYOND GRAVITY, my first solo exhibition, are a tribute to the impossible. It is a close study of creatures that I have never seen and the places that I have never been. The intense colors and geometric vector shapes that my illustration style is known for, are now replaced with grayscale oddity and organic pencil textures. Flying cities and swinging horses. In addition to these new posters, the exhibition will also house a selection of my favorite portfolio pieces. Be Welcome!

Taivas Helsinki commissioned Janine Rewell to design a pattern for Finland’s largest food production and processing company, Atria. The brief was to create a playful, unique and distinguishable look and feel that could easily be adapted for various uses; in business gifts, POS-material,packages, a website, TV, and so on. The result was meant to embody the company's slogan: Good food, better mood.

This Good Mood pattern for Atria received a Bronze Lion at Cannes! yey! It also won silver in Best of the Year 2008, illustration category (Finland).
